- Dogs Prohibited on Grand Parade Trails from April 1 to September 15: The Grand Parade Trails are closed to dogs from April 1 to September 15 to protect breeding birds nesting in the meadows. Nesting songbirds see dogs as predators, which can stress the birds and lead to less productive or even failed nests.
- Maurice Stephens Parking Lot Closed During Construction Project: The parking lot near the Maurice Stephens house, located on Rt 23 opposite from the Washington Memorial Chapel, is closed during construction and renovation work on the house. Visitors are encouraged to park in the Chapel lot for Grand Parade trail access
- County Line Road Closed Monday To Friday: County Line Road is closed during the week, from Monday through Friday. The closure will apply to all vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. Please find an alternate route.
- Area and Trail Closures: Due to wind storm damage, sections of the Lenape Trail, Raccoon Trail, Buzzards Trail, and Horse-Shoe Trail are closed. The ESA parking area and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Pavilion are closed.
- Storm Damage: Some of our trails are open but most of our eastside trails are inaccessible. Please use caution throughout the site especially when hiking, broken tree parts continue to fall.
- Congress Hall Temporary Closure: Congress Hall will close to visitors on Monday, February 23 through Friday, April 24, 2026. Contractors will replace fire alarm and security systems to ensure that our visitors, structures and artifacts are protected by up-to-date equipment. These improvements are one more way that the National Park Service is preparing Independence National Historical Park for the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
- Limited Restroom Availability: Restrooms are available at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th & Market Streets, the corner of 5th and Chestnut Streets, and the Benjamin Franklin Museum (museum entrance requires a fee) in Franklin Court.
- Site Closure Beginning July 8, 2024: The Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site remains closed for a utilities improvement project. Check back in 2026 for a reopening date.
