  • Flooding on road and trails throughout the Brandywine Valley: Visitors are advised to use caution due to flooding affecting some trails and roadways throughout the Brandywine Valley. Conditions may change rapidly, and low-lying areas may be impassable.
  • Safety Alert: New Trail Open in Brandywine Valley Unit: A new multi-use trail is now open across from the Smith Bridge parking lot in the Brandywine Valley unit. The trail is open to hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians. A section of the trail includes a creek crossing that may be difficult for equestrians and mountain bikers. A bridge is planned for the future; however, visitors should use extreme caution when crossing this area.
  • President's House Site Cleaning: Starting Monday, May 11, 2026, crews will be hard at work power washing surfaces, painting steel columns and window and doorway gables, cleaning the glass enclosure, removing weeds, and clearing storm drain inlets. For visitor safety, barricades will be placed around active work areas during the project. Work is expected to be completed by Friday, May 22, 2026.
  • Limited Restroom Availability: Restrooms are available at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th & Market Streets, the corner of 5th and Chestnut Streets, and the Benjamin Franklin Museum (museum entrance requires a fee) in Franklin Court.
  • Isaac Potts House (Washington's Headquarters) Closed For Restoration: The Isaac Potts House (Washington's Headquarters at Valley Forge) is temporarily closed for a restoration project. The Washington's Headquarters area, including the Valley Forge Train Station and exhibits, Commander-In-Chief's Guard Huts, and George Washington statue, remains open and accessible during regular operating hours.   • Dogs Prohibited on Grand Parade Trails from April 1 to September 15: The Grand Parade Trails are closed to dogs from April 1 to September 15 to protect breeding birds nesting in the meadows. Nesting songbirds see dogs as predators, which can stress the birds and lead to less productive or even failed nests.
  • Maurice Stephens Parking Lot Closed During Construction Project: The parking lot near the Maurice Stephens house, located on Rt 23 opposite from the Washington Memorial Chapel, is closed during construction and renovation work on the house. Visitors are encouraged to park in the Chapel lot for Grand Parade trail access
  • County Line Road Closed Monday To Friday: County Line Road is closed during the week, from Monday through Friday. The closure will apply to all vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. Please find an alternate route.
  • Area and Trail Closures: Due to wind storm damage, the Lenape Trail is closed south of Mill Creek Trail and north of intersection with Raccoon Trail. The East Trail System parking area remains closed along with Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Pavilion. (Updated 4/20/26)
  • Site Closure for Utilities Improvement Project: The Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site is closed for a utilities improvement project.
